Force Feeding - The Gruesome facts
Some firms imprison the birds in small cages that don't allow any movement, to stand or spread there wings, allowing only the head out of the top of the cage, they are kept like this night and day for upto three weeks force feeding period, when let out after this period the birds are unable to walk or spreadthere wings.

Destined to weeks of suffering

These people are also mechanised with a tube at the end of a gun that is forced through the birds throat and down the oesophagus, occasionally novice or inexperienced workers using this equipment force down too much food and rupture the stomach,. the intense pain of this must be unbearable for the bird which is unable to move and the bird normally dies. Birds can also die from asphyxiation if the feeder accidentally pushes food into the wind pipe

This process is used on ducks and gees causes inflammation and often infection to the birds throat and oesophagus, force feeding is done to deliberately cause a liver complaint that causes the liver to swell up to a possible 982g.

Compared to 76g of a normal fed bird, the condition leads to a serious impairment of liver function, in this diseased condition the liver ceases to remove toxic substances from the blood which when builds up to a high concentration, this heavy build-up of toxins will give the animal an intense sickly feeling, there are also aspiratory difficulties due to the greatly enlarged liver extending up into the lung cavity, also towards the end of the force feeding period illnesses such as liver haemorrhage and jaundice can occur followed by coma. Many birds die due to this harsh treatment before being slaughted,

Suffocated  by chocking on its own vomit

An autopsy report on a number of dead birds revealed frequent bone fracture, severe inflammation of the throat and oesophagus wall also that a large percentage of deaths were due to cardiac failure having suffered such appalling cruelty.

In foie gras factory farms, workers are pushed to force-feed birds as quickly as possible. This bird's beak was likely broken when a pipe was shoved down its throat.

The liver is then made into a pate called Foie Gras. The eminent Cardiologist David T Nash and many Dieticians are unable to understand why anyone would eat this diseased animal tissue (Hepatic Lipidosis), the fat is mostly Palmitic Acid , a saturated fat detrimental to health and known to drastically bump up the Cholesterol level.

This process of force feeding was made illegal many years ago in England due to the cruelty involved. Other countries that have legislation that specifically prohibits force feeding of animals are Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Germany since 1939, Luxembourg animal welfare Act 1965, Norway since 1975, Poland Act of Aug 1997 states the animal is a live creature, capable of suffering, the human being should respect, protect and provide care to it.. Poland was a major exporter of Foie Gras but after legislation all existing establishments were required to close by January1999, Sweden, Switzerland animals Act 1978, Schwarzenegger recently signed bill to phase out force feeding in Sacramento Califonia, New Jersey USA bill now pending, Chicago banned the sale of FoeGras April 27. 2006 but many establishments had stopped serving it before then, two dozen countries in all mainly continental, sadly, however France still allow this evil practice to continue but it is hoped that they will follow the example of other countries in time.

People are boycotting French produce, stores that stock Foie Gras and restaurants that have it on the menu they are also pressing the Government to place an amendment on the existing law that prohibits force feeding to include both the sale and importation of Foie Gras. . Many commercial outlets in England including the firm Waitrose have stopped selling Foie Gras pate after being informed of the suffering involved in its manufacture, also many other major outlets are also being informed and it is hoped that they also will remove this pate from there shelves. The World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA)., of which RSPCA is a founder member are running a campaign on the issue of force feeding in France.
